Dragon Ball 5 Characters Who Have Jobs (& 5 That Will Never Work A Day In Their Life)

Anime isn't a place where audiences always think of characters as having jobs, but some of these Dragon Ball characters earn a living!

Dragon Ball might be a show centered around flashy battles, but its superhuman characters still live in a world that closely mirrors our own. Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, Tien, and the rest of the Z-Fighters live in a society with its own unique cultures, political landscape, and economy. While fans haven't seen much of this normal world since the days of Dragon Ball, that doesn't change the fact that it still exists.

Many characters in the series have made attempts to assimilate with the general public and live somewhat normal lives, getting jobs that they're actually pretty good at, while others have taken a more unorthodox approach to their earthbound existence.

10 Has A Job: Krillin

While Krillin was introduced as a scheming little punk eager to steal the spot of Master Roshi's top pupil right from Goku by any means necessary, he's now become one of the most honorable, responsible characters in the series.

Though he remained unemployed throughout Dragon Ball Z, fans saw him step up to the plate to take care of his daughter and wife in Dragon Ball Super, touting a job as a policeman. As expected, Krillin's martial arts background makes him a prime candidate for fighting crime.

9 Will Never Work: Bulla

Fans were first introduced to Bulla in Dragon Ball GT. Not only does she possess the sense of superiority that Trunks has given that they're both the products of one of the strongest men in the universe and the smartest woman on Earth, but the money that Bulma inherited and continues to make from the Capsule Corporation means that Bulla never needs worry where she'll get her next meal.

As a teenager, she indulges on shopping sprees, a habit that, just like her mother's funds, won't be drying up anytime soon.

8 Has A Job: Android 17

When Android 17 was first introduced, he (along with Android 18) was depicted as a merciless killing machine bent on destroying Goku. After Goku's demise at the hands of Cell's self-destruction, the young android was forced to find another purpose. In Dragon Ball Super, fans were shocked to see him as a park ranger, protecting rare animals from armed poachers.

While it looks like Android 17, similar to many other characters in the series, doesn't live in splendor with the profits from his job, no one could've expected that he'd make a living by protecting the very planet that he destroyed in a distant future.

7 Will Never Work: Majin Buu

Originally introduced as one of the fiercest opponents the Z-Fighters ever encountered, Majin Buu is just an innocent child at heart. He still doesn't understand basic concepts like money, time, and even common sense etiquette, all requirements that one would need to hold a steady job in the first place.

Since Hercule supplies him with everything he needs, from a place to stay to all the sweets he can eat, Majin Buu has no need to get a job, and with the constant naps he often takes for days (sometimes weeks at a time), it's likely that he'd be fired from the first job he applied for. He'd probably even miss the job interview altogether!

6 Has A Job: Gohan

From the first time fans met Gohan, it was clear that he'd develop different values than his father. Since he was a young boy, Chi-Chi raised Gohan to be a scholar, and by the time Dragon Ball Super begins, Gohan was already preoccupied with constant conferences as a fully-realized academic, so much so that his power suffered as a result.

5 Will Never Work: Piccolo

Piccolo's never been one to seek out a job since his introduction, and that most likely will never change. Not only will his appearance make it difficult for him to work amongst normal Earthlings, but he clearly prefers his solitude. Since Namekians don't require food, and he can pretty much just patch up his clothes with his own magical abilities, he has no need for money. Even after absorbing Kami, he refused to take up Kami's role as Earth's guardian.

Sure, he might have made an attempt to learn how to drive in one of Dragon Ball Z's best filler episodes, but besides that, we can't see this big green guy making any attempt to submit a job application at any point in the future. Although, after dealing with Saiyan youth like Gohan, Trunks, Goten, and Pan, he could probably make a killing off a babysitting service if he ever wanted to.

4 Has A Job: Jaco

While Jaco is largely a source of comic relief in Dragon Ball Super, he's definitely one of the more responsible characters on this list. That's because he holds a position in Universe 7's esteemed Galactic Patrol. While he isn't a "super elite" as he constantly claims to be, he's competent enough to defeat several of Frieza's henchmen as shown during the film Resurrection 'F'.

In the spinoff manga Jaco the Galactic Patrolman, he's been proven to be strong enough to push and even lift his own spaceship out of the water after crashlanding on Earth, showing that his latent capabilities are what enable him to hold such a steady job in such a dangerous profession.

3 Will Never Work: Goku

While Chi-Chi might argue otherwise, Goku isn't lazy at all. Sure, he's constantly circumventing her wishes for him to get a traditional job, he's just more focused on training, fighting, and eating. Anything outside of that naturally goes through one ear and out the other. While Chi-Chi's been putting more pressure on Goku to get a job as their family has grown, Goku's never made any attempt to, and he barely helps her out with harvesting unless she forces him to.

If working a job will lead to Goku fighting being able to fight someone as strong as Jiren again, it's very unlikely that he'll get a job on his own accord.

2 Has A Job: Hit

While Hit is definitely strong enough to tango with extremely powerful warriors like Goku, Vegeta, and even Jiren, fans shouldn't forget that unlike many other characters in the series, he never branded himself as a martial artist. Hit is know as the "Legendary Hitman" in Universe 6, with a renowned reputation for never missing his mark.

His popularity as an assassin is due to his Time Skip ability, which also enabled him to trade blows with warriors who possessed more raw power. Fans saw just how easy completing a job was for Hit in Dragon Ball Super's 71st episode, proving that Hit is definitely a pro at a job he's been doing for centuries.

1 Will Never Work: Vegeta

Vegeta's just like Goku in that he too isn't lazy, but much like most pureblood Saiyans, there's nothing else that he'd rather be doing besides training and fighting strong opponents. With Bulma handling all of the family's expenses, there's really no need for Vegeta to start working anytime soon, especially now that he has a newborn daughter that will most likely take up a lot of his time whenever he's not fighting villains from all over the universe.
