Dragon Ball 10 Whis Quotes That Show Why We Love Him
Whis is one of Super's most popular characters, and with lines like these it's not hard to see why.

We've had years to get to know who Whis is, and yet he still remains just as much of an enigma as Beerus and the rest of his Angel kin. We know he's one of the strongest characters in the Dragon Ball world, not only because he's able to take Beerus down with a single chop to the neck, but he's also reversed time and brought Frieza back to life, feats that would normally require a time machine or even the Dragon Balls. Despite being an attendant, his flamboyant outfit and jubilee disposition allows him to command any space he walks into, and he always seems to have the right words for any situation. That's why we've taken the time to compile a list of some of his best quotes across the original Japanese and Funimation English dubs to show you why our respect for this illustrious Angel has never once wavered, no matter which language he's speaking in.
10 "Well, I do give him points for creativity." (English)

After Goku transported one of Beerus's exploding alarm clocks right in front of Whis, the detonation left him covered in soot, which would be enough to make anyone upset, especially an Angel like Whis who places so much pride into his pristine appearance. Instead of screaming and powering up like anyone else in this franchise would do in this situation, Whis simply laughed it off and managed to give Goku a compliment. If only King Kai could've been more like this when Goku transported an exploding Cell right to his doorstep.
9 "Well my feet do think for themselves but I said nothing about my shoes!" (English)

We first got to see Whis's strength when he managed to fend off Goku and Vegeta at the same time. He hinted at Ultra Instinct, a technique that wouldn't appear until several more episodes of the anime in which his body acts without him having to think. At the end of his explanation of Ultra Instinct, Goku pointed out that he stepped in some poop! We don't know where it came from, since we never see any animals besides butterflies frolicking about on Beerus's planet, but this showed us all one thing: that Whis definitely isn't perfect, even if everything about him damn near is.
8 "Such delicate taste, such refined soup. And all you have to do is add hot water!" (Japanese)

Whis has probably wished that he could do his fair share of exploration across the universe, but unfortunately, if he is to remain by Beerus's side, that also means that most of his time is spent waiting for Beerus to wake up from his millennial naps, which constrains him to whatever food grows on Beerus's world. While we expected him to be blown away by things like sushi and ice cream, we definitely didn't foresee instant ramen being such a hit. That's right! The strongest reaction we've gotten from Whis with any kind of food that he's tasted on Earth has been the cheap, sodium-rich, college-student go-to known as instant ramen. All you have to do is add some water and your risk for heart disease, stomach cancer, and metabolic syndrome will increase as well! But at least you too can hopefully experience the same level of joy.
7 "Not the chaos of consciousness, but the elegant purity of energy operating on impulse alone." (English)

The third and final time Goku accessed the power of Ultra Instinct -Sign- during the Tournament of Power, everyone watching from the stands remained unsure as to whether or not this power would be enough to beat Jiren. This quote is only part of Whis's speech, detailing what he felt from Goku, who was beginning to focus more on the fight itself. In such a harrowing scenario, Whis's words definitely did soothe us quite a bit, highlighting just how wise of a being he is.
6 "In this marvelous cosmos wonders really do happen! Don't they, my Lord?" (English)

After witnessing Goku tap into the powers of Ultra Instinct, Whis was the most enthusiastic out of anyone from Universe 7, about to burst out of his seat like a child on Christmas day. He's been alive for so long to see some truly miraculous things all across the universe, and yet seeing Goku master Ultra Instinct was enough to fill him with a jubilee that not even instant ramen could.
5 "Honestly, you have no class." (Japanese)

Right before the Tournament of Power, Goku decided to get in some last-minute training with Whis. When Whis locked Goku in a tight hold, similar to the move that nearly defeated him against his fight with Toppo, he responded by chomping down onto Whis's hand in a maneuver that reminds us of his rustic upbringing in the wilderness. Whis responded by straight-up telling Goku that he had no class, which isn't far from the truth.
4 "You will kindly remove your hand... I said remove it." (English)

One thing we love about Whis is that even though he happens to be the strongest being in Universe 7, he never flaunts his strength in front of lesser creatures. We've rarely seem him get mad and actually use his power to get his way, but it's clear that in a fight, most fighters wouldn't stand a chance against him. When Goku and Beerus began their battle on Earth, Whis was ready to go, but Piccolo seized his arm, demanding that he wait just a bit longer. Whis began to lose his cool, adopting a stern tone with Piccolo that we rarely see from him. It's a good thing Vegeta intervened, since Piccolo was one second away from being the victim of one of Whis's coma-inducing chops.
3 "Well excuse me. Seems this cream isn't the only thing on this planet that's cold. So, was that an amusing joke? I've been working on my comedy skills." (English)

No matter how Goku and Beerus's battle concluded, either way, Whis would remain untouched. He's always had some distance from the series' otherwise heavy stakes, enjoying the best cuisine that Earth had to offer while Goku's family and friends watched the fight in hopes that Bulma's birthday wouldn't be their last day alive, so it's no surprise that they weren't in a talkative mood. When Whis asked Android 18 about how ice cream is made, she rudely told him that she had no idea, to which he responded with a light-hearted pun about her attitude. We think it's admirable that he's picked up comedy as a new hobby, but honestly, he should just stick to performing miracles...
2 "It's hard to keep all the gestation methods straight. Congratulations!" (English)

Just because Whis carries around a magical scepter that's basically a portable encyclopedia, doesn't mean he's one. When Vegeta revealed that he was having a baby, Whis abruptly told him that he didn't look pregnant, only to find out that it was actually Bulma who was pregnant! After he took one look at her, he quickly remembered that Earthling women are the ones who actually give birth, and he mentioned that it's hard keeping "all the gestation methods straight". The image of a pregnant Vegeta was funny while it lasted though.
1 "That Beerus the Destroyer may be powerful but boy does he stink up a room! Soon they'll start calling you the Destroyer of Noses." (English)

There aren't many who would dare to insult Beerus, and even those that do would surely face some kind of punishment for disrespecting a Destroyer. In Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods, after Beerus woke up from his centuries-long nap, Whis took at a jab at his body odor in an attempt to get the God of Destruction to hop into a nice long bath. Beerus, of course, wasn't having any of it, and joked that he'd destroy Whis, although it'd probably go the other way around if he tried. Yet another reason why Whis will always be our favorite Angel.
