Dragon Ball 10 Times The Gods Were Disrespected
While the presence of gods and celestial figures is a big part of the Dragon Ball franchise, they aren't always respected by the central characters.

Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball saw quick success upon its initial debut in the 1980s, and it’s gone on to become one of the most evergreen anime titles of all time. Dragon Ball’s principles remain unshaken after more than 35 years of stories, but Toriyama’s signature series has gradually changed over time, incorporating the changing sensibilities of the anime industry.
There have been deity figures in Dragon Ball since the original series, but one of the bigger changes in the franchise is the increased presence of celestial figures and Gods. There is often a healthy amount of reverence that exists for these figures, but Dragon Ball doesn’t shy away from opportunities to humble these deities and leave them humiliated.
10 Goku Blows Up King Kai’s Planet

To Goku’s credit, this highly egregious act is at least done with the safety of Earth in mind and it technically serves the greater good. Nevertheless, Goku’s swift thinking results in the destruction of King Kai’s planet, which sets him on an unwavering path of mockery. Goku uses Instant Transmission to get a self-destructing Cell off of Earth and he decides that King Kai’s home is the best substitute. Goku doesn’t have much time to think of alternatives, but it’s still a decision that leads to the death of King Kai, Gregory, and Bubbles.
9 Bulma Slaps Beerus In The Face

Dragon Ball Super brings new tiers of godliness into the mix with Gods of Destruction, Angels, Grand Priests, and more. Universe 7’s God of Destruction, Lord Beerus, has a reputation that precedes him, and Vegeta is particularly nervous that someone will do something to disrespect this volatile and destructive figure. It’s Vegeta’s wife, Bulma, that happens to go off on the God of Destruction. Bulma slaps Beerus in the face, and he returns the favor. This triggers a lot of emotions in Vegeta, but Bulma is still one of very few individuals that’s slapped a God of Destruction and lived.
8 Vegeta Yells At Old Kai And Goku For Their Bribe

Dragon Ball Z’s final assault against Buu brings forward Old Kai, who spends a lot of time with Gohan as he masters the prolific Ultimate upgrade from the deity. Old Kai is full of sage wisdom and power, but his age makes him embody the lecherous qualities that define Master Roshi.
Old Kai requests some unscrupulous bribes in order for him to lend out his services. Goku volunteers Bulma without her consent, which sets off Vegeta on both the elderly Kai and Goku.
7 Goku’s Cavalier Attitudes Towards Omni-King, Zeno

Out of all of the powerful celestial figures that Dragon Ball has explored, Omni-King Zeno is at the top of it all. In perfect Dragon Ball fashion, Zeno looks incredibly unassuming and has a childlike demeanor where he just wants to be entertained. Zeno can wipe out an entire universe in the blink of an eye, making everyone careful to not upset him. Goku doesn’t apply any restraint or judgment regarding his behavior towards Zeno. This mortifies everyone else, but thankfully the Zenos are amused by this and form a kinship with Goku.
6 Garlic Jr. Traps Kami And Mr. Popo In Jars

Filler plays a prominent role in many anime, but it’s especially outrageous in Dragon Ball Z. The anime has many spans of filler, but its feature films are largely considered to be non-canon. Dragon Ball Z connects the dots between its filler through the use of Garlic Jr., a goblin-like figure who achieves immortality. Garlic Jr. successfully possesses a lot of Dragon Ball’s heroes through his Black Water Mist. It’s during this period that he has Earth’s Guardian, Kami, as well as Mr. Popo, trapped and shrunken in jars. It’s a very embarrassing way to be held hostage.
5 The Other Gods Of Destruction Pick On Beerus

Dragon Ball Super embraces the concept of a multiverse and it brings forward 12 sets of godly figures for each respective universe. Audiences spend the most time with Universe 7’s representatives. Super reveals Beerus is the black sheep among his fellow Gods of Destruction.
The rest of the Gods of Destruction pick on Beerus and drudge up a past act that he’s incredibly embarrassed over. Beerus slept through an important event that Zeno held, which almost resulted in every universe’s erasure. The other Gods of Destruction still hold a grudge against Beerus.
4 Goku Laughs At The Prospect Of King Kai's Permanent Death

Death is still a serious event in Dragon Ball, but a lot of its sting is reduced thanks to the restorative properties of the Dragon Balls. However, the presence of Gods of Destruction, Super Dragon Balls, and the Omni-King tease new methods of extinction. There’s a very grim moment in Dragon Ball Super where it’s teased that King Kai will be permanently erased. This turns out to not be an empty threat, but Goku responds to the news with laughter, which is quite disrespectful considering everything that they’ve been through together.
3 Majin Buu Massacres And Eats The Supreme Kais

The powerful enemies that arise in Dragon Ball often have legendary reputations where they’ve caused destruction for centuries, or millennia. Majin Buu becomes a major threat to Earth’s population. He’s introduced as the ultimate evil because of his history with the Supreme Kais. They narrowly managed to seal him away. Before their success, Majin Buu kills, eats, and humiliates many of the Supreme Kai. In the present, Buu gives Shin a major beatdown that humbles the God.
2 Goku Calls Out Champa’s Weight Upon Their First Meeting

Dragon Ball Super's 12 universes have a corresponding complementary universe. Universe 7 is parallel to Universe 6, there’s a distinct resemblance between their Gods of Destruction, Beerus and Champa. Champa is the more rotund of the two individuals. It's something the God of Destruction is sensitive about. Beerus and Champa lovingly mock each other a lot, but Goku’s first meeting with Universe 6’s God of Destruction is extremely disrespectful. Goku reduces Champa to a “fat version” of Beerus. He’s lucky he didn’t immediately face a Hakai blast.
1 The Dragon Balls Are Never Used To Revive King Kai Even Though He Wants It

Dragon Ball allows for ample opportunities to revive King Kai, Bubbles, and Gregory since they’ve never previously perished. It seems like this basic act of decency should be Goku’s priority since their deaths are his fault. Instead, this God remains deceased and his fatal status more or less becomes a running joke in the anime. It truly feels like Goku will never revive King Kai, but the deity absolutely deserves to receive this consideration when so many wasteful Dragon Ball wishes take place.
