Dragon Ball 10 Things About Gohan That Make No Sense
Though he may have been one of the most skilled fighters in the Dragon Ball universe, no one has had a harder falling out than Gohan. Here are some things that just don't make sense.

Gohan is one of the central characters in the Dragon Ball series, falling just below Goku and Vegeta in terms of importance. Some fans love him, bemoaning the devolution of his character after the Cell Saga, while others are glad that Goku wrestled the main character spot back away from him.
No matter which side fans find themselves on, it's rather universally agreed that his fight with Perfect Cell is one of the best in the series. Just as fans can all agree, his pacifism being played up to such extremes is annoying. Fans can all agree there are certain things about the character that makes zero sense as well.
10 Being Drunk With Power

This isn't in the typical sense as it is with a Vegeta or any villain in the entire series. He doesn't crave more and more power as they do. On the contrary, he has very different values than the other Saiyans.
It's why it's so strange when he becomes so arrogant and cocky when he achieves a new form, often taunting his opponent. He did it vs Cell and Super Buu, both times being incredibly strange. For a character that dislikes violence as he does, he should be looking to end a fight as soon as possible and not bragging.
9 Giving Up On Fighting

This is the most frustrating part of the character, one that many feel butchered him in Super, but it's been an issue since Dragon Ball Z. Understandably, Gohan won't spend his life training as his father does, no one expects him to do that since he has other goals in life.
The issue is that a man who cares as genuinely about his family as he does and knows his potential as a fighter, would never just stop training outright as he does. He wouldn't just give up on Martial Arts because doing so would end up putting Videl and Pan in danger. It always felt like Toriyama hamfisted what a pacifist he was.
8 Great Saiyaman

On the surface, the character and arc post Cell makes a lot of sense. Gohan wanted to still protect others while shrouding his identity from people. It helped keep his identity a secret while also letting him avoid any sort of extra attention, something he hated getting.
Where it's confusing is why he ran around posing like he was part of the Ginyu force. The character's over the topness wore out it's welcome rather fast, turning Gohan into too much of a joke.
7 His Limitless Potential

While the character has one of the best character arcs in the series, truly a toss-up between him and Vegeta, there's one thing that's never made sense. The Cell arc made it seem like Gohan had finally tapped into all the potential he had, reaching Super Saiyan 2 and ending Cell's threat.
As the series goes on, power scaling goes up, but the real question is why did Gohan have so much potential? What was it about him that made him so unique? It's never really explained or touched on, it's just a thing that exists.
6 Gohan's Initial Affection To Piccolo

After the Saiyan saga, it's understandable because Gohan gets to see first hand just how much Piccolo cares for him. Their relationship as a whole is really well done from that point forward, Gohan being the key cog in Piccolo's turn to the side of good.
The issue is before that, he takes tough love to a new level, often beating the crud out of Gohan regularly. That isn't exactly the type of person that many people would be warming up to or trying to make friends with.
5 Never Listening To His Father Figures

It's a recurring theme throughout the series, especially in the first few arcs. A character will tell Gohan to go somewhere or do something, and instead of doing it, he'll just stand there staring at them.
Sometimes he will just outright ignore the order and do the exact opposite of what he's been told, like he did when tried to fight Frieza, despite Goku asking him to leave at least five times. Maybe it's the Piccolo training regiment, but the only time Gohan seems to respond is when someone yells the order at him.
4 His Entire Character Before The Tournament of Power In Super

It's understandable that not all characters can be in the spotlight and that some times you need to take a backseat to people like Goku and Vegeta, but never has a character fallen off as hard as Gohan.
He went from his peak during the Cell Games, fell slightly during the Buu saga, and then jumped off a cliff in Super. Most of his scenes prior to the Tournament of Power are fluff or filler with Videl, rarely having any sort of impact on the plot. It's one thing to be a pacifist and another to somehow forget how to fight altogether.
3 Losing To Krillin

For as lovable a character as Krillin is, there's no reason, under any circumstances, that Gohan should be losing to him. Yes, it was due to the tournament format, Gohan falling out of the ring due to Krillin's new technique, Solar Flare x1000, but it's still Krillin.
It's a shame a hero has to be treated as such a weakling, but avid fans can count the times Krillin has won a fight on one hand. Rusty or not, Gohan should have been able to handle with ease.
2 Inconsistencies With His Tail

His tail feels as if it's cut off two or three times (twice by Piccolo) in the anime and then finds a way to show up in some of the movies. Saiyan tails can't grow back so this was clearly an oversight, a minor one at that.
The Great Ape form lacking any real importance from the Saiyan saga onward, unless fans count the awesome Super Saiyan 4 form from Dragon Ball GT.
1 Knowing What Cell Looked Like

This is a minor quibble, but one that still doesn't make a whole lot of sense. When Goku and Gohan were training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, Goku tells Gohan to picture Cell killing his family, in an effort to spurn him toward unlocking his true power.
Gohan readily admits he doesn't know what Cell looks like, yet has a dream about him soon after. It's understandable what the series was going for, but they could have just as easily shrouded what Cell looked like rather than Gohan having an image of his perfect form.
