Dragon Ball 10 Unanswered Questions About Whis We Want To Know
While Dragon Ball Super will inevitably clear up the series' biggest mysteries, Whis has been surrounded by unanswered questions for years.

When Whis was first introduced, fans were shocked to learn that he was even stronger than Beerus, whose power is still incomprehensible even towards the end of Dragon Ball Super's anime. As an Angel, there's still a lot of mystery surrounding Whis, and though the series has given more insight into what kind of person he is, there's still so much more about this character that's just been left in the dark.
While Dragon Ball Super's continuation will inevitably answer some of our biggest questions concerning the white-haired attendant, here are a few questions concerning him that we want to be answered as soon as possible.
10 What Exactly Happens To Whis When Beerus Dies?

As an Angel, Whis is destined to remain by Beerus' side for as long as the God of Destruction lives, but fans found out in Dragon Ball Super that if anything happens to Beerus, Whis would be rendered inactive until a new God of Destruction is appointed. But what exactly will this period of inactivity look like?
Does he automatically shut down like some kind of robot, or does he merely retire to someplace like Zeno's Palace in order to wait it out until a new God of Destruction is appointed to Universe 7?
9 How Many Gods Of Destruction Has He Worked With In The Past?

While Gods of Destruction are important figures in the Dragon Ball multiverse, they can easily be replaced if something were to happen to them. This means that there's a possibility that Beerus wasn't the first God of Destruction in Universe 7, and if he wasn't, Whis might have worked with these previous deities. The only question is, how many of them did Whis serve?
8 Did He Have To Train To Become So Strong?

Whis is one of the strongest characters in all of Dragon Ball, so much so that he was able to fend himself off against Goku and Vegeta without taking a single hit, something even Jiren couldn't accomplish. But where does all his power come from? Does it merely come from being born an Angel, or did Whis have to work from the ground-up to get himself to where he is now?
As shown in the Dragon Ball Super manga, his younger brother, Merus, is training to become a full-fledged Angel, although he's already demonstrated a high level of proficiency with advanced techniques like Ultra Instinct, meaning that Angels may start at a better baseline than everyone else.
7 Which Of The Angels Is He Older/Younger Than?

Whis comes from one of the biggest families in Dragon Ball history. Including Merus, he currently has 12 siblings, and from what has been revealed so far, Vados of Universe 6 and Kusu of Universe 10 are older than him (although one glance at Kusu would make one think that she's his younger sister).
Merus, on the other hand, is his younger brother. As far as the other 9 Angels, it's unclear which ones are older or younger. With the introduction of Merus, hopefully Dragon Ball Super delves more into Whis' family so that fans can get a better idea as to which Angels should be paying Whis his senior dues.
6 How Old Is Whis?

Like Beerus, Kaioshin, and Zeno, Whis has been around for millennia, although it's unclear whether or not he's been around since the beginning of time. If he wasn't, when exactly was he born?
After being alive for so many centuries, we're surprised that anything, even the culinary delicacies of Earth, can get him so riled up– which may just be a testament to how relatively young he might actually be. Regardless, whatever anti-aging cream he's using needs a spot in everyone's bathroom.
5 Can Anyone Use Whis' Staff? Can He Perform Miracles Without It?

Whis has used his staff to perform a multitude of miracles, from rewinding time, assisting in Bulma's childbirth, and even reviving Frieza. But is it just that Whis is able to channel his existing power through the staff to perform these feats, or is the staff doing all the work? Say that someone like Frieza got his hands on Whis' staff. Would that make him untouchable? Would he find himself suddenly unable to rewind time without it?
Since Whis is rarely seen without his staff, it might prove to be impossible to steal it from him, but with the way Dragon Ball Super's manga has been progressing, anything can happen.
4 Is He The Strongest Angel?

Being that some Angels are older than others, it's only natural to assume that some are also much stronger than others. Dragon Ball Super's manga gave fans an idea as to where the Gods of Destruction stack up against one another in terms of power, but two Angels have never been seen fighting one another on-screen.
When Whis bumped into Vados in the earlier episodes of Dragon Ball Super's anime, it was revealed that she was a bit stronger than Whis when they last trained together a millennium ago, but Whis was confident that he closed that gap. Many fans have been left wondering if his words actually rang true, and even if he could defeat Vados, would he lose to any of his other siblings?
3 What Techniques Does He Use In A Serious Fight?

Given how strong Angels are, the only competition for someone like Whis in a fight would have to come from another Angel or even the Grand Priest. In Universe 7, there isn't anyone who could provide Whis with a challenge; even Goku's Ultra Instinct form would run out long before he could land a decisive blow.
Sure, fans have seen Whis take out Beerus with a single chop, and have seen him deflect Goku and Vegeta's attacks during training sessions, but what kind of moves does he have up his arsenal when he's fighting an opponent who won't go down after a couple of taps? In Xenoverse, he debuts moves that have never been seen before in the anime, giving viewers some hint as to what kinds of techniques he would employ in a serious fight, but until he uses these moves in the anime, they can't be counted as canon.
2 Does He Have A Mother?

There are many species in Dragon Ball that are limited to one gender, like Namekians or Frieza's race. Despite Angels being either male or female, it's peculiar that the Grand Priest is introduced as Whis' father, but his mother is nowhere to be found.
This either means that something tragic happened to her, or Angels reproduce in a manner that's far more complex than anything we've seen in Dragon Ball so far.
1 How Did He Get Assigned To Universe 7?

Unlike the Gods of Destruction, Whis and the other Angels aren't necessarily tied down to a specific universe. When Zeno and Future Zeno erased the universes during the Tournament of Power, the Angels were the only beings from their respective universes who were permitted to remain, demonstrating that they're not connected to the universe like other lifeforms.
Given that there are so many universes, why was Whis assigned to Universe 7? Was he born in conjunction with Universe 7's formation? Did he choose to inhabit Universe 7 for reasons unknown? Or did the Grand Priest dictate this assignment for him? Hopefully Dragon Ball Super will answer this one sooner rather than later.
