Dragon Ball 10 Times Vegeta Acted Out Of Character
Vegeta is known to be one of the most intense & serious fighters of Dragon Ball. But he's had some pretty great out-of-character moments too.

The Prince of all Saiyans is one of the strongest characters in all of Dragon Ball Z, and his unrelenting drive and intense sense of pride have made him a fan-favorite throughout the years. Vegeta is known as a cold, calculated warrior that will stop at nothing to achieve his goals. He rarely likes working with others and never accepts defeat.
That's not to say Vegeta isn't able to surprise his fellow Z-Fighters. He has regularly defied expectations and acted out of character. Whether it's played for laughs or a sign of real character growth, it really is a treat whenever the stoic Prince steps outside of his comfort zone.
10 Vegeta's Family Vacation

When fans picture one of the most powerful warriors in the multiverse, they probably aren't not thinking of a dad on a family vacation. That's just what they were given when Vegeta first appeared in Dragon Ball Super, as he traveled to an island resort with his wife, Bulma, and his young son, Trunks.
To go on such an excursion with the family is really out of character for Vegeta, and Bulma even says as much. When she presses him as to why he decided to join them, Vegeta reveals that he is fulfilling an old promise he made to Trunks while they were training.
9 "That's My Bulma!"

While it's no secret that Vegeta loves his family, he rarely ever shows it. He'd much prefer to play things cool rather than make his true feelings known.
That's what made this moment in Battle of Gods so memorable. After Lord Beerus strikes Vegeta's beloved Bulma down, the Prince is absolutely overcome with anger. Vegeta burst towards Beerus after bellowing the ever-quotable "That's my Bulma!" In this instance of emotional vulnerability, Vegeta actually managed to surpassed Goku in power.
8 Unleashing His Fury On Cell

Vegeta was cold and unwilling to form any sort of bond with his son Trunks upon his arrival from the future. Vegeta considered Trunks weak for having run from the threat of the androids rather than face the problem head-on.
Trunks' quest for Vegeta's approval was an important plot thread throughout the Cell arc, and all it took to get it was dying. When Cell managed to fire a fatal blast at Trunks, Vegeta dropped the tough-guy act and went all out in the name of his fallen son. This was the first time in Dragon Ball that Vegeta would fight for someone other than himself. Outbursts like this one and the later incident with Beerus were two rare occasions of Vegeta caring for someone other than himself.
7 Teaming Up With Goku

Vegeta has said before that he would rather die than fight alongside Goku, and this was almost the case on more than one occasion. The pair of Saiyans refused to fight at the same time against Kid Buu, and that almost cost them their universe.
So when Vegeta and Goku finally decided enough was enough and worked together during the Tournament of Power, it's easy to see why characters like Krillin and Gohan were so surprised. For Vegeta to admit that he lacked the power to win on his own, it showed that he was able to put his pride aside when it really counted. He even went as far as to give Goku his energy to fight after his own elimination, something he had never done before.
6 Prince Playing Jester For Beerus

Beerus' arrival in the Dragon Ball universe changed the game in a number of ways, including what fans could expect out of Vegeta. The appearance of Beerus and his caretaker Whis proved to be a humbling experience for the Saiyan Prince, as he was far outclassed by both fighters.
Though Vegeta usually bows to no man, that was not the case for Beerus. He was practically cowering at the GoD's feet, something fans have never seen from Vegeta regardless of the enemy's strength. His song and dance routine during the Battle of Gods arc was a level of comedy fans never thought they would see from Vegeta.
5 "Teach me!"

Vegeta has always preferred training on his own, even going as far as to develop the Super Saiyan technique on his own. He also regularly chose to train by himself in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, something that was incredibly difficult for even Goku.
Vegeta asking Whis to train him showed just how far he was willing to go to improve his fighting prowess. He even donned an apron to complete a daily list of chores!
4 Admitting Goku Is #1

The conclusion of Dragon Ball Z was one of epic proportions that also saw a story years in the making between Goku and Vegeta come to a close. Vegeta absolutely refused to accept Goku as the most powerful Saiyan ever since they first squared off, but the Prince had changed by the end of the series.
As Goku did battle with Kid Buu, Vegeta delivered a harrowing speech in which he praised his fellow Saiyan warrior's undying resolve. He concluded by admitting that Goku was truly the number one Saiyan in what was a monumental moment of growth in Prince's life.
3 One More Fusion

There was a time when Vegeta and Goku were forced to fuse together into one mighty warrior to take on the threat of Majiin Buu. This lead to the birth of Vegito, a warrior with all the strength of Goku and Vegeta combined. After the effects of the fusion wore off, Vegeta swore he would never do any technique like that again, saying he would rather die than fuse with Goku again.
Apparently, this wasn't the case, as Goku was able to convince Vegeta to fuse with him again not once but twice. The first was against Zamasu, and the most recent was in the Dragon Ball Super: Broly movie when the two joined to form Gogeta, the ultimate warrior.
2 "You've Made Me Proud, My Son"

In one of Vegeta's finest moments, he again peeled back the layers of his tough exterior in order to put his true emotions on display. After realizing that death would almost certainly be awaiting him at the conclusion of his battle, Vegeta turned to his son Trunks to deliver his most iconic speech in the entire series.
Fans got to see Vegeta's heart open up right in front of them as he hugged his son for the very first time and told him how proud he was. This was the biggest display of emotion ever seen from an otherwise coldhearted character, and the scene became iconic amongst Dragon Ball fans. Even Piccolo, who is rarely ever caught off guard, was surprised at how selfless Vegeta was able to be in the face of a monster like Buu.
1 Final Plea To Goku

A common theme with Vegeta is his unwillingness to accept defeat or second place. His first instinct is to trust in his power and take care of the problem head-on and by himself. This is why Vegeta's exchange with Goku after suffering fatal wounds at the hands of Frieza on Planet Namek was so surprising to Dragon Ball fans at the time.
Vegeta has a candid conversation with his fellow Saiyan warrior, in which he praises Goku's strength while also practically begging him to defeat Frieza. This was the first time Vegeta ever opened up to Goku or any other character for that matter and showed that there was more to the Saiyan Prince than what laid on the surface.
