Vegeta is one of the most well-known characters on Dragon Ball, but there are some things about him that don't make any sense.

When an anime has run on television for well over three decades, it isn't surprising to have quite a bit of character progression. After all, what show doesn't have a few villains that suddenly have a change of heart? It is after all the perfect redemption arc when someone that fans think is irredeemable finds the error of his or her ways.

Dragon Ball's Vegeta is the perfect example of this. When he was first introduced, he was a despicable guy who only cared about himself. He helped conquer worlds and enslaved millions. Yet, this same character grew to learn compassion and even began his own family. While this character arc is nice, it does have some head-scratching moments that still make fans wonder what the creators of the anime were thinking.

10 Why Was He So Willing To Kill His Fellow Saiyans?

Not everyone finds comforts with things or people that remind them of home. Whether it is because they don't want to be reminded of where they come from, or they just don't feel a connection with their past.

This can be said for Vegeta, who even though his planet and people were mostly destroyed, he doesn't seem to find other Saiyans' company that pleasing. When it came to his old friend Nappa, Vegeta seemed to consider him worthless after he lost to Goku, and as far as Goku is concerned, Vegeta has hated him since he first met him.

9 Why Is Vegeta So Injury Prone?

Saiyans must not be that much different than people when it comes to the fact that some people are just more injury-prone than others. Goku not only withstands blasts that should be lethal but also walks away from them as if they were nothing but a mere nuisance.

Unfortunately, in every fight, Vegeta seems to have one consistent injury that always ends up affecting his performance. After taking a few powerful hits from enemies, his left arm will become completely useless to him, leaving him vulnerable to more powerful attacks.

8 Is He A Prince Or King Of The Saiyans?

Vegeta has always taken great pride in his royal lineage. In fact, it is basically where he gets his pompous, entitled personality. Yet, Vegeta seems perfectly content in only being known as the Prince of the Saiyans.

His very title is confusing since his father, King Vegeta, has been dead for quite some time, yet, the normally cocky Vegeta appears to be apprehensive about taking on the title of King of the Saiyans. Maybe, it is because he is waiting to defeat Goku before he feels accomplished enough to take on the title.

7 Has Vegeta Grown Over The Course Of Each Series?

When Dragon Ball Z first came out, Saiyans, appeared to be short and stocky (except for Nappa), which was exactly the opposite of Goku. When Raditz and Vegeta were first introduced on the series both had a similar build and look.

A build that differed greatly in size from Goku. Even though Goku towered over him when they first met, Vegeta has actually grown throughout each series, until ultimately, growing to the exact same size as his rival Goku. To make it more confusing, there isn't any specific reason for his growth in the plot.

6 His Relationship With Bulma Was Forced

Sometimes opposites do attract, but in the case of Bulma and Vegeta, neither ever seemed quite right for each other. In fact, leading up to their pairing, Vegeta was mainly known as a villain who would gladly sacrifice every earthling if it meant destroying Goku. Not to mention the fact that Bulma was always tied to Yamcha, making her seem kind of unavailable.

Yet, when it comes time to introduce a time-traveling half-Saiyan to the mix, the writers decided that Bulma and Vegeta were the only candidates available to be the parents of Trunks.

5 Why Is He Always So Arrogant?

For a Saiyan who always seems to come in second place, Vegeta is quite boisterous about his abilities. When he was a henchman for Frieza, Vegeta could boast about his powers since he was one of Frieza's strongest goons.

However, after arriving on earth and facing off against Goku, Vegeta quickly realized that he was incapable of defeating Goku no matter how hard he trained. For most characters, this would be a humbling moment, but for Vegeta, it only made him more resentful about never rising above his rival Saiyan.

4 Why Did He Betray Frieza?

Even though Vegeta gladly boasts about his royal heritage, he was raised for most of his life by Frieza. Strangely enough, Frieza was Vegeta's mentor and someone he tried to emulate. However, even though Vegeta had a certain amount of respect for Frieza's power, he adamantly hated him for subduing his people.

When the time came that Vegeta felt he could take charge by retrieving the Dragon Balls for himself, he jumped at the chance. Though, his attempt to free himself from Frieza led him to destroy the same army he wished to control.

3 Is He Really That Much Weaker Than Goku?

One constant that has remained throughout much of the Dragon Ball anime is that Goku is always one step ahead of Vegeta when it comes to overall strength. Ever since Goku hit the Super Saiyan mark, he has never looked back.

Vegeta has been in a constant state of not just trying to surpass Goku but to just meet him as an equal in the field. Sadly, for Vegeta, this has been the one thing he has failed at time and again, which of course, just makes him loathe his fellow Saiyan Goku that much more.

2 What Happened To Vegeta's Brown Hair?

When Vegeta was first introduced, it was the early 1990s when computer animation was in its infancy. So, it only makes sense that as technology has expanded, specific character traits and characteristics would fall by the wayside. In Vegeta's case, his character has not only grown in size but has also had a complete change of hair color.

When first meeting Vegeta, he had light brown hair, but shortly afterward, his hair began to resemble the dark black hair Goku is known to have. It is just one of many changes made to Dragon Ball over the years.

1 True Hero Or Hidden Villain?

One consistency throughout Vegeta's time on Dragon Ball is the fact that whether he was a villain or hero, he has always remained a fan favorite. His role as the anti-Goku played to the anime's strengths resulting in fans being content with his character.

However, for reasons unknown, Vegeta goes against everything fans knew about him when he disavowed his nasty ways and went to the side of good. With time, most fans believed he would show his true colors, but for a good part of two decades, Vegeta has been one of Earth's mightiest heroes.
