Dragon Ball 10 Things About King Kai That Make No Sense
All Dragon Ball fans know of King Kai, but there are some things about the character that just don't make any sense.

Though he's recently taken a more passive role in Dragon Ball Super, King Kai is one of the most important characters in Dragon Ball Z. Not only was he Goku's first teacher in Dragon Ball Z, but the techniques he taught Goku are some of his strongest, most reliable moves to date.
While we'll always be indebted to him for giving us a version of Goku that we couldn't have dreamed of, there are a few things that just don't make too much sense about Universe 7's North Kai. Then again, when you're from such a magical race, not everything you do has to make much sense in the eyes of we lowly mortals in the first place.
10 He Owns A Car

When we were first introduced to King Kai, we immediately noticed his love for his bright red 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air. Sure, he might have good taste in cars, but we had to wonder why he would even want one on such a tiny planet with only one road.
It's not like he could go too fast since he could easily lose control and end up running into his own house, or worse, Gregory and Bubbles. Sure, the car might primarily be for show, but with his planet at the tail end of Snake Way, King Kai doesn't exactly get too many visitors.
9 Wasn't Intimidated By The Ginyu Force At All

King Kai may have trained one of Dragon Ball's strongest characters, but he's definitely not one of the strongest guys out there himself. Early-on, he stated that Nappa and Vegeta were stronger than him, and yet he confronted Recoome, who'd recently wiped the floor with Vegeta without the slightest bit of fear.
This surprised even us, given that he only had Yamcha, Tien, and Chiaotzu to back him up when things went bad.
8 Poor Power Level Despite His Planet's Gravity

When Goku first arrived on King Kai's Planet, he could barely walk under the planet's gravity, which was ten times stronger than Earth's. King Kai motivated him with the revelation that the gravity on his own planet was the same as Planet Vegeta's, and that this was one of the secrets to the immense power of a Saiyan raised on Planet Vegeta. If that was the case, why did he then follow up by saying that Nappa and Vegeta were far stronger than him? King Kai should be leagues above them, considering he's endured this gravity for so many years, and even managed to strengthen Goku to the point where Nappa couldn't even land a decisive blow onto him.
The only explanation would be that King Kai hasn't been training, but that doesn't add up, considering just how strong he was able to make Goku in such a short amount of time.
7 Porunga Didn't Give Him Three Wishes

After having both his body and planet obliterated, fans wondered if King Kai would remain homeless forever. Extra Dragon Ball Super manga chapters showed us that at some point after Kid Buu's defeat, King Kai managed to assemble the Namekian Dragon Balls. Right before he could wish for a larger planet, Goku showed up and interrupted his wish, asking instead that the planet be brought back with an identical look as before.
After the wish was granted, the Dragon Balls immediately turned to stone, but last time we checked, Porunga grants three wishes. King Kai could've used another wish to get rid of his halo, but for some reason, Porunga decided to retire early.
6 Didn't Know That Frieza Destroyed Planet Vegeta

As the King of Universe 7's North Quadrant, King Kai is responsible for watching over a specific corner of the galaxy. He can see everything that goes on in mortal worlds with the enhanced vision that many Core People possess. When King Kai explained the history of the Saiyans to Goku, however, his story had one major fallacy.
According to him, Planet Vegeta's guardian destroyed the planet with a meteor shower, but we later learned that this couldn't have been farther from the truth. If he can supposedly see everything that goes on in the North Quadrant, why did he get such a big fact wrong?
5 Finds Bad Jokes Funny Despite Being Around For Millenia

While we don't know King Kai's exact age, it's clear that he's been around several centuries, and yet, his sense humor is worse than a ten-year-old's. We're sure he's heard a lot of jokes over the course of his life, yet he laughs at things that just aren't funny.
At one point in Dragon Ball Z's Funimation English dub, Goku, who'd never really attempted to tell a joke before, says, "one [a jeweler] sells watches, one [a jailor] watches cells." While this was a clever play on words, it wasn't enough to warrant King Kai's signature snort-filled laugh.
4 Declined His Revival

When Goku and King Kai died at Cell's hands, we completely understood Goku's reasoning for wanting to stay dead, but it didn't make sense for King Kai to decline his chance at resurrection. At first, we thought it was so Goku wouldn't be alone in the afterlife, but we later saw that the other Kais were not only still alive but were able to wander freely in the Other World, so this couldn't have been the case.
If he wanted to, King Kai could've had the others use the wish they intended to use on Goku on him, but for some strange reason, he remained silent, only to forever complain about the fact that Goku hadn't wished him back.
3 Hadn't Mastered The Spirit Bomb Despite Developing It

One way in which Dragon Ball characters learn powerful techniques is through observing the original user and then trying to mimic them for the same result. This is how Goku pulled off his first Kamehameha after watching Roshi fire one. The Spirit Bomb is one of the strongest techniques in his arsenal, and can only be used by someone pure of heart.
He learned this technique through his training with King Kai, who stated that he could never master the Spirit Bomb himself. We're still baffled as to how King Kai could've taught Goku such a powerful technique if he couldn't even perform it, unless he's just that good of a teacher.
2 Has Never Been Shown In A Fight

Although King Kai claimed that Vegeta and Nappa were stronger than him, we know for a fact he was stronger than Goku when the two first met, evident by how much Goku struggled with his planet's gravity.
We've seen King Kai adopt a fighting stance during their training, but we've never seen him in any kind of physical struggle, unlike every other one of Goku's teachers. Surely King Kai's initial training had to consist of some sparring since that's the best way to prepare for a real fight. Unfortunately, the only way to see King Kai in a fight is to use a mod for Xenoverse or some other Dragon Ball game.
1 Didn't Use Instant Transmission To Escape From Cell

In Dragon Ball Z's Funimation dub, Goku visits King Kai's Planet to hopefully locate New Namek. King Kai instantly recognizes his Instant Transmission technique, stating that he could've taught it to Goku before. Not only would this have made his battle against Vegeta much easier, but we've always wondered why King Kai didn't just use this technique to escape his planet when Goku brought Cell there.
As the anime depicts, King Kai knew Goku was coming to him before he even appeared. He had more than enough time to teleport somewhere else, but he entered full-on panic mode and perished with his planet. Yet another reason why he's a teacher and not a warrior.
