Dragon Ball is full of characters that do weird things, but even for an anime set in a vast universe, the character of Hit is one of the strangest.

Hit is one of the most popular characters in Dragon Ball Z, and he's also one of the most mysterious. There have been many stoic, silent antiheroes throughout the series, but none have behaved quite like Hit. Known as the most deadly assassin throughout the multiverse, Hit has quite a few tricks up his sleeves.

His unique powers have made him a challenging opponent for even the strongest Dragon Ball Z characters, including Jiren and Goku. It's easy to see how powerful he is, but upon closer inspection, there's a lot about Hit that doesn't quite make sense. The audience might have been able to suspend their disbelief, but can you?

10 Hit Doesn't Understand The Concept Of Bowing, But He Shows Respect To His Opponents

One of Hit's most defining characteristics is his sense of honor. Throughout the series, he adheres to a strict set of personal morals and behaves like a professional even in the direst of situations. When faced with respectable opponents like Goku, he often showed mercy and refused to deliver the coup d'état when he clearly had the chance.

This is why it doesn't really make much sense when he is so taken aback at the sight of Goku bowing before a fight. Surely he would have seen similar displays of honor before, especially given his 1,000-year lifespan.

9 Hit's Powers Obviously Ignore The Rules Of Physics

Let's get one thing straight: according to our current understanding of the laws of physics, Hit's manipulation of space/time is (probably) theoretically impossible. Essentially, Hit's abilities involve time travel.

Many scientists agree that traveling between two points in time is impossible, as Einstein's theories state that in order for an object to do so, it would need to travel faster than the speed of light. The late scientist's theories state that such an object would need to have an infinite mass and a length of zero. That being said, when you're dealing with the insane strength and speed of Dragon Ball Z characters, anything is possible.

8 Hit Doesn't Fit Into The Normal Power Ranking System

For virtually every other character in the Dragon Ball Z universe, it's relatively easy to place them within the hierarchy of the power ranking system. Although the show is famous for its inconsistencies in this regard, this system easily allows each character to placed on a numerical scale.

The problem is that Hit's abilities make it difficult to rank him accurately. Because of his "time skip" ability, he can theoretically hold his own against characters that are stronger and faster than him in a normal situation where time flows normally. For example, Hit has shown that he can be stronger than a Super Saiyan Blue character, which is inconsistent and seemingly impossible.

7 Is Hit's Ability "Time Skip" Or "Time Slow?"

Hit's time-bending abilities are a focal point and a point of confusion for many fans. Although his trademark ability is often described as "time skipping," there are many instances that seem to suggest that this is not the case. In one situation, Goku is shown expressing pain while Hit is skipping through time.

If time was frozen, this shouldn't be possible. Some fans are of the opinion that his ability actually slows time to a crawl rather than stopping it entirely. This also explains why some characters are able to overcome Hit's ability by increasing their speed and "adapting" to the slowed passage of time.

6 Why Didn't Whis Tell Goku How To Beat Hit?

Whis might be many things, but calling him an ally to Goku is a bit of a stretch. Both he and Beerus seem to view humanity and the Saiyans as mere pawns, even if Whis is (for the most part) a benevolent being. In one instance, Whis hinted that he knew how to counter Hit's time-skipping abilities.

However, he refused to share the technique with Goku, presumably because he viewed it as an opportunity for his favorite fighter to grow and learn when facing a new challenge. Considering the fact that withholding this information almost resulted in Goku's demise, this might have been a mistake on Whis' part.

5 We've Never Seen Hit At Full Strength

One of Hit's most endearing qualities is his calm, almost bored approach to fighting. The assassin almost never seems phased, and his hands are firmly in his pockets most of the time. The parameters of the tournaments he took part in also mean that delivering a finishing blow is usually against the rules.

This totally goes against Hit's nature as an assassin who focuses on delivering one deadly strike. Combined with his lackadaisical fighting style, this means that we've never really seen Hit's true potential in a situation where he's determined to ruthlessly destroy his opponent in a few seconds.

4 Pure Progress

According to the Dragon Ball Z lore, Hit's powers diminish significantly when he faces a much stronger opponent. When fighting an opponent of equal power level, the assassin can "skip" a tenth of a second in real-time. On the other hand, this amount of time decreases when Hit is facing an opponent who is much stronger.

However, this entire logic is thrown out of the window by the addition of something called "Pure Progress," which allows Hit to adapt mid-battle to fine-tune his technique and match the fighting prowess of his opponent. For example, Hit improves his trademark technique considerably to skip longer amounts of time during a particularly demanding fight, eventually boosting that period to half a second.

3 We Don't Know Anything About Hit's Race

From the very beginning, Dragon Ball Z has introduced various alien creatures to the story, with the Saiyans being the first and most notable addition. An expansive backstory fleshed out the Saiyan race in satisfying detail. Other aliens, such as the Namekians, also benefited from detailed lore.

Even Frieza's race has been explored to some extent. In the case of Hit, however, the subject of his heritage is a blank slate. We don't really know anything about his race, although he's visually distinct from every other character in the series.

2 Goku Basically Assassinated Himself Using Hit

Goku doesn't exactly have a solid track record when it comes to making intelligent decisions, but it's safe to say that he truly outdid himself in one situation involving hit. While Goku might be many things, he's never one to back down from a challenge. After seeing Hit's combat abilities, he wanted to see what the character was capable of without the restraints of tournament rules.

This prompted him to hire Hit's services as an assassin through a third party. The target was, of course, Goku himself. The entire debacle ended with Goku being legally deceased for a few seconds.

1 Hit's Incredible Durability Is Never Really Explained

Hit is able to hold his own against characters that are considerably more powerful simply due to his unique abilities. These abilities essentially help Hit increase his speed through unorthodox means, as the assassin isn't actually moving faster than his foes. His muscles aren't working harder, and the entire process requires minimal exertion when compared to something like the Kaio-ken technique.

If he relies on this ability to such a great extent, then how is he able to take even a single strike from insanely strong characters like Jiren or Goku? If his abilities allow him to "punch above his weight" as has been suggested, you'd think that he would pay a larger penalty when his evasiveness fails him.
